Jay Patel, the individual accused of numerous fraudulent activities, is allegedly operating an Airbnb scam under the guise of a company called Sunrise 2 Sunset Vacation Homes L.L.C.

The AirBnB Deception:

Patel appears to have fraudulently inserted himself into the business registration of Sunrise 2 Sunset Vacation Homes L.L.C. He is allegedly using this company to:

  • Offer Non-Existent Rentals: Patel is advertising vacation rentals on Airbnb that he does not have the authority to rent, leaving guests stranded and out of pocket.
  • Collect Payments Under False Pretenses: He is collecting payments from unsuspecting Airbnb users for these non-existent rentals, misrepresenting himself as a legitimate representative of Sunrise 2 Sunset Vacation Homes.
  • Incur Debts: Patel is allegedly running up debts in the company’s name, potentially leaving the actual business owners with financial liabilities.
  • Forge Signatures: He is also accused of forging signatures on documents related to the business, further demonstrating his disregard for legal and ethical conduct.

Evidence on Yelp:

Yelp reviews for Sunrise 2 Sunset Vacation Homes reveal a pattern of complaints from customers who have allegedly been scammed by Patel. These reviews detail experiences of paying for rentals that were never provided and encountering fraudulent activities associated with the company.

Protecting Yourself from This Scam:

  • Verify the Host: Before booking a rental on Airbnb, thoroughly research the host and the property. Look for reviews and verify the host’s identity and legitimacy.
  • Be Wary of Off-Platform Payments: Always make payments through the Airbnb platform to benefit from their secure payment system and customer support.
  • Scrutinize Listings: Be cautious of listings with limited information, unusually low prices, or high-pressure sales tactics.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you encounter any suspicious behavior or believe you have been a victim of a scam on Airbnb, report it to Airbnb and the appropriate authorities.

Being a victim of this particular scam, I’ve been following this website.i recently learned this scammer has a court date coming up in March. Does anyone know the specifics? Will he need to appear and which county court is involved?

From what I know about him and other court cases, he never shows up.
